Sunday morning celebration is the center of our life at Wesley Church. We order our personal and community life around the gathering of God's faithful people in vital, faithful, and biblical celebration. Places for Christians to serve in celebration ministries are open to all ages in ministries of ushers, lay readers of the Scriptures, communion stewards who serve with the Pastor at Table, music and seasonal decorating.
The Communion Stewards, scheduled on a rotating basis, prepare the communion table before a celebration service, and clear the table afterwards. During the celebration service, the stewards help serve Holy Communion, holding either the chalice or the paten with the wafers. Holy Communion is serviced every Sunday at the 8:45 a.m. Communion Celebration, on the first Sunday of the month at the 10:45 a.m. Traditional Celebration, and at special celebrations during the Holy Seasons. The Chancel Choir welcomes new singers at their Wednesday evening rehearsals. Connect with Allan. Celebration Ringers rehearse on Wednesday evenings. The KlangChor will teach you how to hold a bell at their Sunday evening rehearsals! Connect with Frank.
During the Holy Seasons we hang greens, put up a tree, hang banners, set out potted plants and decorate the Education Wing hallway. Workers are needed for planning and doing. Connect with Bill A.
Usher teams welcome all of us as we enter the sanctuary. They light candles, hand out bulletins, assist with seating, send the offering plates across the pews, and collect Prayer Request Cards. Ushers teams are assigned to work for a month at a time, two or three times a year. They are needed for both Sunday Celebration Services and for other special services throughout the year. Ushers need arrive 30 minutes prior to the celebration service. Connect with Becky.
The readings of the Lectionary for the day are shared by ministerial staff and lay members of our congregation. Lay reader team members are assigned to read about four times a year at the second service. The text of the lectionary reading, along with instructions, is mailed or emailed to the lay reader during the week before the Sunday they are to read. The reader sits in the congregation until the time in the service when the reading is to be done; then he or she proceeds up to the lectern. Connect with Becky.
